Setlagole, North West

Setlagole is a historical Setswana village situated at the intersection of the N18 National Route with the R376 and R507 Regional Routes in the North West Province of South Africa.

The village lies approximately 18.3 km north-west of Madibogo, 59.5 km north-west of Delareyville, and 86.7 km north-east of Vryburg.

Setlagole falls within Ratlou Local Municipality under the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality of the North West Province.

History

From Setlagole, the Barolong and Bahurutshe launched their own hit-and-run attacks into the Rustenburg and Schoonspruit as well as southern Marico districts.

Thereafter, Setlagole became a staging post for raids on Boer farms in the western Transvaal. A surviving Boer document records the loss of 287 cattle from eight Schoonspruit farms during one such foray.”
