Seaview, Gqeberha – South Africa

Seaview is a village in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, situated approximately 25 km west of Gqeberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth).

Virtually just up the road from the beautiful Maitland River mouth, with its incredible sand dunes, lies the quaint little village of Seaview, famed for its Seaview Game and Lion Park.

Seaview, as its name suggests, offers magnificent views of the sea from its treed hills, and a tranquil place to unwind in the area of Port Elizabeth (officially renamed Gqeberha), regarded as the ‘wild side’ because of the miles of undisturbed sandy beach and crashing waves.

It may have its own little shopping centre and bottle store, but Seaview is still all about fishing, swimming – there is the odd little tidal pool for little ones – and snorkelling, and is as reminiscent of country living as you can get this close to a major city.

The Seaview Game and Lion Park is home to over 40 species of wildlife that include wildebeest, zebra, giraffe, and monkeys – all of whom roam free – and enclosures that provide sanctuary to crocodiles, meerkats, genets, caracals, and jackals – all of whom are released into the wild, if possible.

A little further afield are other game farms such as the Kragga Kamma Game Reserve or Shamwari. And the Addo Elephant Park – home of the ‘big seven’.
